The Staff at Allusion Studios is very excited to use all the latest video equipment we upgraded to. This will be the first real full resolution production we have done. We are closing the studio for a week strait to accomplish this monumental task. New lights, Light meters, DSC charts, Tripods and heads, Jib and yes, 2 full HD cams. And that is just the video equipment. We also have a new 6 pc Yamaha Absolute Kit, Paiste Cymbals, Mojave Mics, dampeners etc…. Here is a little preview.
This April I attended the National Association of Broadcasters to get up to date on the latest video technology. I have not been to the show in 12 years so it was a great experience to get back in touch. I had 3 main goals in mind. Higher resolution cameras, smoother shots and better workflow. I even tried on Glidecam’s full body harness. At the end of the day I got new Canon cameras, manfrotto heads and tripods and EZFX jib. Our video production has definitely taken a huge step forward in quality. Just in time for The Studio Edge Vol 3.
Since the installation took longer than expected, Chase had to catch up by converting all the scripts into teleprompter safe formatting. Something that he thought he would have more time to do. When we started filming the first day, only 50% of the scripts were converted. Since we shot out of order, due to the viewing angle, he had to process them out of order at the same time. We would film all day, then he would work on the teleprompter at night so we could hop to it the next morning. I hired Terry Babb to be the cinematographer. Between Terry and Chase, they tired to make sure that I was sounding good while working their own task at the same time. Working the teleprompter is difficult. It becomes a dance with the talent speaking. Sometimes it gets away from you and you guess it, we start from the top again. Normally I would take behind the scene shots of the production, but since we were way under staffed, there was not time to even think about it. Here are some shots of the drum room coming together.
So after starting construction for the new acoustics to be put in, I found out that my producers were not able to make it out to film because of scheduling conflicts. This meant it was time to put another hat on and take charge. One more project that I am producing and behind the camera at the same time. Not an easy task, but par for the course. I pushed the schedule up since there was no time to waste and started preparing producer tasks like, what angle would we be shooting during this segment of the script. That weekend my band was opening for the Temptations in Oklahoma and I was in the airport finishing scripts as fast as I could waiting for our next flight. Full multitasking. Once I got back, Chase and I started time lapse filming the installation of treatment that did not actually need to be specifically installed while speaking on camera. It took the whole week to do since we were still doing sessions for most of the day and installations at night. In the picture you can see that we did mock layouts on the floor to get an idea of what it would look like. Then we started applying the treatment. Since we were using a new type of anchor to install our panels, it was good to go through the process, and then revise my scripts accordingly before filming. More to come……
